SYRIA…THE LAND OF THE AMURRU
March 11 to 18, 2022
Syria, a county of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups including Syrian Arabs, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mandeans, and Turks. One of its most amazing castles is Krak des Chevaliers “Castle of the Knights”, a great fortress built by European crusaders and is
one of the best surviving examples of medieval military architecture in the world. The famous site of Palmyra, an oasis in the Syrian Desert, contains the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centers of the ancient world. Syria's capital and largest city is Damascus, colloquially known in Syria as ash-Sham and titled the "City of Jasmine". In addition to being one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Damascus is a major cultural center of the Levant and the Arab world.
