Southern Libya…Land of Lakes, Oases, Dunes and Rock Art
November 09 - November 17, 2026
Led by Pre-Historian Archaeologist & Lecturer
Iman Nagy

Southern Libya’s stretch of the Sahara is a place of striking contrasts and timeless beauty. Towering dunes roll into the distance, broken by dark rocky plateaus and curious stone formations shaped by centuries of wind. Hidden among the sands are salt lakes that shimmer in the sun, while the Acacus Mountains hold ancient rock art telling stories of a greener age. Life gathers around oases like Ubari and Ghat, where palm groves and desert traditions of the Tuareg bring a sense of culture and resilience to this vast landscape. Days are filled with shifting light and mirages on the horizon, and when night falls, the desert sky opens into one of the clearest views of stars anywhere on earth—a setting that feels both remote and unforgettable.
