ALGERIA…The Treasures of the Sahara
October 29 - November 06, 2026
Led by Pre-Historian Archaeologist & lecturer Iman Nagy
The Tassili desert in southeastern Algeria is a landscape that feels both surreal and timeless, where sweeping sands give way to towering sandstone plateaus, sculpted arches, and a maze of rocky pinnacles often called a “stone forest.” Hidden among these cliffs lies one of the world’s greatest open-air galleries, with rock art dating back over 10,000 years that tells of a greener Sahara once alive with elephants, giraffes, cattle, and rivers where people swam and thrived. Today, the desert is a place of silence and wonder, where Tuareg nomads still cross its valleys and small oases sustain life at the plateau’s edge. Days bring shifting shadows across strange rock formations, and nights reveal skies dense with stars, making Tassili not only a wilderness of striking natural beauty but also a living record of the Sahara’s deep past.
