Followed by Christian, Crusader, Venetian and Byzantine eras, Cyprus is dotted with marvels scattered along craggy mountains, verdant plains, sweeping beaches, rolling hills and vineyards. From ancient times visit the Curium Amphitheatre, Kykko Monastery (in the Troodos Mountains), the lace village of Lefkara popular for its handmade lace and paint artists, Tombs of the Kings (in Paphos), and Nicosia (the only divided capital city) are all worth a visit. Depart USA to Cyprus
Depart the US to Nicosia arriving the next day.
Arrive in Nicosia
Upon arrival meet and transfer to your hotel in Nicosia located in the City Centre, check in and rest of the day at leisure, overnight at the hotel. (D)
After Breakfast, start your day with exploring Nicosia, the only divided Capital in Europe. Visit the Cyprus Archaeological Museum where most of the treasures of Cyprus past are housed. Continue to visit St John’s cathedral and its colorful frescoes. Afterwards visit the Byzantine Art Museum, with its stunning collection of Byzantine icons. Visit the old city within the Venetian walls, Famagusta gate, the Laiki Yitonia (old folk neighborhood) with winding alleys lined with shops and galleries, the Levention Musuem and the observatory for a panoramic view of the city. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B,D)
Kyrenia & St Hilarion
Explore the North starting with the ancient city of Salamis on the Eastern shore, a Roman city with its elegant colonnade, hypocaust, mosaics & monuments. Continue along the peninsula to visit the St Hilarion castle perched dramatically on a mountain. First fortified by the Byzantines but these were greatly strengthened by the Lusignan kings during the middle Ages. Continue to Kyrenia via Bellapais Abbey, a beautiful set of ruins overlooking the Mediterranean. Here Lawrence Durell was inspired to write his book “Bitter Lemons”. Finally arrive at the picturesque harbor town of Kyrenia. Return to your hotel in Nicosia for your overnight. (B,D)
Nicosia - Platres
This morning will visit the UNESCO world heritage protected churches listed for their architecture and murals. Then head to visit St John Lampadist byzantine church. Continue through the Troodos mountain villages via Pedhoulas, see the Archangel Michael UNESCO church followed by St Nicholas of the roof ending in Platres village at the foothills of the mountain amongst pine clad trees. See the Troodos square, the highest in Cyprus attracting skiers in winter & hikers for nature trails in the cool fresh atmosphere of the forest. Afterwards transfer to your hotel in Platres Village for check in and overnight. (B,D)
Driving down the Valley and head for Paphos stopping en route at wine producing village of Omodos, visit the Holy Cross church and ancient wine press. Continue to Paphos to visit the tombs of the Kings, a world heritage site with impressive underground tombs of the Hellenistic period. Visit the ancient sites of Nea Paphos, tour the remarkable houses. Explore the Roman Palace, the houses of Dionysos, Aion, Theseus mosaics, a series of beautifully preserved mosaics depicting scenes from Greek mythology. See the Pillar of St Paul at Chrysopolitissa church. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B,D)
Paphos to Limassol
Departing from Paphos to Limassol, visiting en route the Petra tou Romiou, (the legendary Aphrodite – goddess of love) said to be the Aphrodite’s birthplace. Enjoy the amazing landscape. Visit the sanctuary of Apollo Ylatais. Continue South to Kourion, a city kingdom during the Iron Age. Explore the amphitheatre, the roman houses with mosaics and the basilica. Continue to Kolossi castle famous in the medieval times for Commandaria (famous Cyprus sweet wine). Afterwards transfer to your hotel for check in and overnight. (B,D)
Limassol to the US
Transfer to the airport for your flight back home arriving the dame day. (B)
