The Great Sahara of Libya Itinerary

Day 01 TRIPOLI to SEBHA
March 26 & April 09 - Spend the day at leisure, relaxing for the adventure
that you are about to embark on. Later in the day, transfer to the airport for
the flight to Sebha, capital of the Fezzan and gateway to the great Sahara
desert. Check into the hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 02 UBARI SAND SEA
March 27 & April 10 - This morning board 4x4 vehicles for an exhilarating
drive into the high dunes of the Ubari Sand Sea to the great oases of Lake
Gabraoun and Lake Umm al-Maa.These beautiful lakes surrounded by palm trees
are enchanting and offer the opportunity for a refreshing swim in the salt
waters followed by a dousing with freshwater from a well. Enjoy a picnic lunch
before heading out to Germa to visit the ancient capital of the Garamantian
civilization. The Garamantian were a warrior tribe that flourished for a
thousand years from 500 BC and were a constant thorn in the side of the
Romans. Drive to the camp beside the sand dunes and overnight in comfortable
twin-bedded rondavels with en suite facilities and hot and cold running water.

Day 03 WADI MATKHANDOUSH
March 28 & April 11 - Continue your travels by 4x4 vehicles as you drive to
Wadi Matkhandoush, an ancient spiritual site and unique open-air art gallery
festooned with rock engravings dating back thousands of years. Arrive in time
for a picnic lunch before beginning exploration of the site, one of the oldest
museums in the world, where you will be amazed at the abundance of ancient
images depicting the life that once roamed this now barren region thousands of
years ago. Return to camp in the Ubari Sand Sea for overnight and dinner.

Day 04 AL-AWAINAT and JEBEL ACACUS
March 29 & April 12 - Drive on blacktop to Al-Awainat and enter the UNESCO
World Heritage Site of Jebel Acacus with its amazing vistas and superb rock
paintings charting the evolution of human societies dating back 12000 years.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in this serene setting.The scenery, with its great basalt
monoliths ladled among shifting sands, is awe-inpiring. Dinner and overnight
at Acacus Tented Camp. (B,L,D)

Day 05 JEBEL ACACUS
March 30 & April 13 - Another day to explore this stunning region, marveling
at the beauty of the rock art and the incredible scenery. Share a picnic lunch
in the dunes as you relax and enjoy the day. Return to the tented camp. (B,L,D)

Day 06 JEBEL ACACUS to SEBHA and TRIPOLI March 31 & April 14 -
Pack a picnic lunch and leave the beauty of the Jebel Acacus behind as you
return to Sebha for the flight to Tripoli. Upon arrival transfer to your
comfortable hotel in the city center. Dinner in Sebha or the hotel in Tripoli
depending on the flight schedule. (B,L,D)

Day 07 TRIPOLI
April 01 & April 15 - A day to relax and repack after your desert adventure.
Lunch on own (cost not included) but the guide and transportation will be
available. Gather this evening for a farewell dinner, the perfect way to end
this truly memorable experience. (B,D)

Day 08 TRIPOLI to USA
April 02 & April 16 - Bid farewell to Africa as you depart Tripoli for Europe
with a connecting flight to the U.S. (B)
